Why the Nysra Initiative exists

After war, children are left with noise, disruption, and instability.
What disappears first is calm.

The Nysra Initiative exists to hold a small, protected space where children can sit, draw, and focus without pressure, performance, or exposure.

This is not a campaign.
This is not symbolic work.

This is a real space, running now β€” and it is fragile.

What is a Light Room?

A Light Room is a small, repeatable session designed to support emotional stability through presence and creative focus.

  • Small-group setting in a protected environment
  • Facilitated locally with calm structure
  • Art is used as presence, not therapy and not performance

Children are never asked to explain their drawings, share personal stories, or perform emotion.

Why this matters now

After war, children don’t ask for help.

They withdraw.

They lose rhythm.
They lose focus.
They lose the ability to sit safely with themselves.

A Light Room restores one thing first:
calm.

Not by asking questions.
Not by forcing expression.
But by holding space β€” quietly, consistently.
If this space disappears, that calm disappears with it.

WHY SUPPORT IS NEEDED NOW

This work is not guaranteed

We are not supported by institutions.
We do not have formal partners funding this work.

Each Light Room exists because support arrives β€”
and pauses when it doesn’t.

There is no buffer.
No office.
No safety net.

When support stops, the space closes.
And the calm it holds disappears with it.

This is not a campaign. This is a real space, running now β€” and it is fragile.

What your support funds

We keep it simple on purpose. Safety and consistency matter more than scale.

Art materials

Basic paper, pencils, and colors that allow children to draw quietly and focus without instruction, performance, or expectation. No outcomes are asked for. The act itself matters.

Safe spaces

Small, protected rooms that must remain available and prepared. Without funding, these spaces disappear β€” quietly, and completely.

Local facilitators

Trusted adults who return each week to hold the same calm structure. When support breaks, consistency breaks β€” and trust is lost.

Continuity

Small, protected rooms that must remain available and prepared. Without funding, these spaces disappear β€” quietly, and completely.
